Land Use Planning in Pennsylvania

In Pennsylvania, local governing bodies (municipal, county, township, city, or otherwise) derive their authority to engage in comprehensive land use planning and to promulgate land use ordinances (e.g., zoning) from the Pennsylvania state government. The state grants this authority to localities statutorily through Pennsylvania Municipalities Planning Code, 53 Pa. Stat. Ann. §§ 10101-11202.
